Another Game We Shoulda Won, Minor League Report

Published by sweez at 2:13 am under Uncategorized Edit This

We let another one get away today, blowing a 5-0 lead. Let’s turn to the minor league system once again, the one place I find some solace in this season of losing.

AAA- Paul McAnulty wants back on the team. Since his demotion, the outfielder has hit .500 including a three-run blast tonight. Third baseman Peter Ciofrone homered for the second game in a row, and Brett Dowdy added a home run as the Beavers won 6-4. Outfielder Will Venable (.320) went 2-for-3, also auditioning for a shot at the big time. Wil Ledezma got the win for Portland, Carlos Guevara got the save.

AA- Stephen Faris (6-3, 3.07 ERA) threw six scoreless innings for the win. Shortstop Sean Kazmar was 3-for-4 and reliever Mauro Zarate struck out two to reduce his ERA to 0.56.

High A- The Storm can really hit, which is making it tempting for me to make a trip up there soon. Two days ago they got three hit games from outfielders Cedric Hunter and Kellen Kulbacki, two of the hottest prospects in the system. Last night, Lake Elsinore got two hits apiece from Hunter, Kulbacki, 2B Eric Sogard, OF Sam Carter and IF Keoni Ruth in a 7-6 win. Reliever Evan Scribner, acquired from Arizona for Tony Clark, pitched a scoreless inning after striking out the side in his debut two nights ago. In that game, former first-rounder Cesar Carrillo threw five scoreless innings as he continues to try to make his way back from shoulder surgery.

A- Big day for the Wizards’ offense in a 14-3 win. Fort Wayne got three hits from OF Luis Durango, SS Lance Zawadzki and OF Yefri Carvajal. Carvajal led the way, going 3-for-5 with five RBI and a homer. OF Robert Perry also homered. SP Corey Luebke threw five strong innings for the win.

Low A- Robert Verbick went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
