Padres Keep Toying With Our Hearts
Oh goodness the things they put me through. On another note, rookie catchers Nick Hundley and Luke Carlin appear to be look like the exact same guy. Hmmmm. I’m going to continue with our All-Suck team selections. Here’s the starting pitchers.
All-Suck Team: Starting Pitchers
1. Dewon Brazelton (2006). What a train-wreck this guy’s career was. A former #1 overall pick, he only pitched nine games with the Padres, but those nine were enough to have him etched in my mind forever as the worst pitcher not named Hideki Irabu I’d ever seen. He ended up with 18 innings pitched as a Padre and gave up 25 runs. I can’t even describe the experience of watching him pitch. It was just completely hopeless.
2. Bobby J. Jones (2001-2002). This guy particularly drove me nuts because the Padres continually acted like he brought something to the table when all he did was blow games. Went 8-19 in 2001, giving up 37 yacks in the process.
3. Sean Bergman (1996-1997). Bergman was also unbearable to watch at times, in ’97 he threw 100 innings with a 6.09 ERA.
And here’s a minor league report from last night:
-Will Venable went 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs and two RBI. He’s hitting .324 at AAA.
-The Lake Elsinore hitters continue to be hot. Kellen Kulbacki and Sam Carter each went 2-for-4 with a homerun.
-Wynn Pelzer had another fine outing at Fort Wayne, with six shutout innings. Yefri Carvajal went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
