Padre Bats Come Alive, All Hell Breaks Loose
I’m still trying to figure out what happened tonight. Trailing 8-3 after five innings, I thought for sure that the Pads were headed for another pathetic loss. After all, there was no way our offense could even put up eight runs. Think again.
The Pads put up five in the sixth to tie the game and then, when it appeared we were headed for extras, they put up a seven in the ninth. Every Padre in the lineup had at least one hit, most had more than that, making for some crazy numbers. Check these out from Monday’s game.
-Edgar Gonzalez (4-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI) hit two homeruns, effectively tripling his career homerun total.
-Kevin Kouzmanoff (3-for-5, run, 2 RBI). Kouz hit his 11th homer and is on a ten-game hit streak.
-Michael Barrett (2-for-4, 2 runs, RBI). He’s almost above the Mendoza line! (.198).
-Jody Gerut (2-for-6, 2 runs, 2 RBI) hit his fourth homer of the season.
-Brian Giles (4-for-5, run, RBI)
We needed this win. The Rockies have lost eight in a row and hopefully they can take on the role of cellar dweller from now on. It’s good to see us return to the site of that 13-inning tragedy last season, and this time kick the crap out of the Rockies before letting it get to extra innings. Hopefully this has broken some kind of curse, and from here on out we can wreck shop. Probably not, but who knows.
The farm teams didn’t fare too well across the board, but Wynn Pelzer dominated for Fort Wayne, striking out eight in five innings.
