AAA- Fresno 11, Portland 4
Not a good day for the Beavers, but outfielder Will Venable continues to swing a hot bat (2 RBI). Starting pitcher Cesar Ramos continues to struggle with the adjustment to AAA, giving up seven earned runs in five innings to skyrocket his ERA to 6.88.
AA- San Antonio 2, Corpus Christi 1
Steve Garrison threw six innings and struck out seven for the Missions. Greg Burke earned his eighth save of the year. On the offensive side, outfielder Chad Huffman went 3-for-4.
A+- Lake Elsinore 5, Rancho Cucamonga 4
Brian Joynt went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Storm. Shortstop Jesus Lopez went 2-for-3 with two RBI and catcher Mitch Canham was 2-for-4 with two runs.
A- Fort Wayne first baseman Felix Carrasco won the Midwest League Home Run Derby by hitting 21 home runs at the competition. Carrasco, 21, is a native of the Dominican Republic, where the Padres recently constructed a state-of-the-art training facility. The Padres front office claims they will spend as much money this year signing players from their camp in the D.R. as they will on draft picks from the amateur draft. Carrasco is hitting .258 with 12 homers and 46 RBI in 209 at-bats.
