Headley Moving Up, Minor League Report 6/15

Published by sweez at 2:58 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Top prospect Chase Headley is expected to get the call to join the team from AAA tomorrow. After a slow start, the 24-year-old third baseman turned left fielder has raised his batting average to .305, to go with 13 homers and 40 RBI.

Headley has been on a tear, hitting .379 with 10 RBI in his last eight games, including home runs in each of his final three games with Portland. Look for Headley to begin playing every day in the outfield, and occasionally giving Kouz a break at third.

Since other Padre blogs seem to ignore what’s going on in our minor league system. I’ve decided it would be best to give a short wrap-up of the day’s minor league games. This way, the next time a guy like Headley comes up, we can know a little bit about him. The Padre minor league affiliates are the Portland Beavers (AAA), San Antonio Missions (AA), Lake Elsinore Storm (High-A) and Fort Wayne Wizards (A).

The Missions’ offense was clicking tonight, highlighted by a grand slam from outfielder Drew Macias. The offense was also fueled by Josh Alley (3-4, 2 RBI) and Mike Baxter (2-6, 2 RBI). Matt Buschmann threw six scoreless innings to earn his sixth win.
