Game Notes from 6/14
Some thoughts on tonight’s 8-3, 10 inning, win over the Indians
-Kouzmanoff seems to be on a mission to let the Indians know they made a mistake in trading him. He’s now 5-for-9 with two homers and six RBI against his former team.
-Khalil Greene has given us a glimmer of hope that he may finally be heating up. His at bats looked good tonight, bringing his batting average up to a whopping .222. He’s hitting .333 over the last six games.
-Jody Gerut, another former Indian, continues to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-5 with the game-tying homer. He’s up to .289 on the year.
-In addition to looking exactly like his brother, Edgar Gonzalez is also hitting like him. If he keeps this up, Iguchi may find himself on the bench when he comes off the DL.
-Cha Seung Baek figured things out after the first inning and then just started dealin’. I was worried about his control issues, but he changed speeds well and finished strong.
-Heath Bell is a stud. Five punchouts in his two innings, bringing his ERA to 2.04.
-It was good to see Huber finally do something, as he connected for a solo blast in the third inning. He may have needed it too, as it’s been rumored that Chase Headley will be called up from Portland next week. Huber or Paul McAnulty are the likely candidates to go, unless Scott Hairston (who hyperextended his elbow in BP today) lands on the DL.
-The Dodgers and D-Backs each got pounded today, allowing us to gain a game. The Giants lost too, so we pass them in the standings.
